James has long been passionate about the potential for clean tech to improve the places where we live and work.  He has worked hard to realize this potential, collaborating, learning new things, getting projects done on time and in budget, and being adaptive and responsive.

James and his family moved to Portland in 2007 in search of a livable, economically and 12b297eenvironmentally sustainable place.  Portland has been that for James and he’s become a booster for the city and the region.  Before launching Mast Collaborative in 2011, James worked on electric vehicle and energy storage initiatives as well as urban redevelopment projects for the Portland Development Commission.  He has also been a key player at Drive Oregon, a state-funded nonprofit that promotes, supports, and grows the electric vehicle industry, serving as one of their charter board members and their interim operations director.  James continues to serve on Drive Oregon’s industry advisory committee.

Through over twenty years of experience,  James has developed a strong skill set in the public and private sectors including consulting, project management, site acquisition, zoning, and community outreach through owning and running his own consulting practice (Mast Planning Inc.) and working for Nextel Communications, Sprint PCS, and Westchester County Department of Planning.

James received his Masters in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree in Urban Studies from Vassar College.
